Tahiti is of course the most well known of all French Polynesian Islands. This means there are a lot of travelers and tourists year round on the island looking for things to buy, various services, and places to dine.
Although by far the majority of the shopping, services, and restaurants are in DOWNTOWN PAPEETE, (see that section for details), there are also some notable places OUTSIDE of the city.
This page covers the noteworthy and exceptional places to shop, services available, and dining possibilities OUTSIDE THE CITY OF PAPEETE: From boutiques, general merchandise, a variety of services, and unique arts and crafts stores located throughout the island.

throughout the island. Hotel dining is the most obvious form of non Papeete fine dining, of which all the top hotels on Tahiti having great restaurants

Other choices include various established restaurants in the small towns on Tahiti's coastal road. Cuisine ranges from basic island staples like fruits and fish dishes to world class French cuisine.
As with all islands in Tahiti Polynesia, the food is usually delicious, but you may have to sample different restaurants

Hotel Restaurants
All the major hotels on Tahiti have great restaurants, albeit, they are not
always the most economical way to go... (but if you're staying at one of them, you owe it to yourself to try them for at least one dinner!)
See the "Where to Stay" section for
hotel locations on the island of Tahiti.
"Le
Roulottes"
As far as food choices go, the rolling trucks of Tahiti are the same as on
all the Polynesian islands: a great option and always recommended by TST.
Where ever you find people on Tahiti, from the coastal districts and
towns to various locations scattered along the coastal road, you will find
these "rolling trucks".
The farther out of town you go, the more "local"
the trucks get, and are often quite interesting cultural experiences as
well as tummy fulfilling. The only word of caution is: This is where the
locals eat, and as such, may not serve you a huge menu or suit your particular
tastes.
